History of Film

No one person invented Cinema. However, Edison's successfully demonstrated prototype of the kinetoscope enabled one person at a time to view moving pictures. This was a commercial success but the people who introduced moving pictures in projection were...

The Lumière Brothers
Two French inventors called Auguste Lumière and his brother Louis Lumière can be called the fathers of cinema since they were the first to invent a motion capture, which means they invented a device that was a camera, projector and a film printer all in one, that shot and arranged a series of photographs and that skimmed through them fast enough to make it seem like moving pictures , hence a video (film). They called their invention Cinématographe, the word that “cinema” is derived from.

They created a film titled “Workers leaving the Lumière Factory” in 1895 , which is believed to be the first motion capture ever.

As they progressed , they opened the first film theatre to the public, where they showcased their earliest films, which mostly consisted of everyday work in French streets, and even short comedies. They were very successful in achieving this milestone as they paved the way to one of the greatest ways of entertainment we know today.

Since then, there were many transitions in all factors of cinema. From black and white to colored footage, analogue to digital, aspect ratio, resolution, quality, sound etc. The only thing that was left unchanged, is the purpose of cinema, which is entertainment.
